This is a collection I took based on my Exhibition piece of Plastic Surgery / Biological Abnormalities (pictures of exhibition on Beauty page). This was the highlight of my art life so far, it was the most beautiful thing I've ever given birth to. Anyway, on the photography side of things I wanted, as with the whole thing, to evoke mixed feelings and express how I feel, how personal this is to me. So, I got thinking, I wanted to create abnormalities, I wanted deformities. I've always had a slightly disturbing interest in this world, and read a few books I had on freaks. I knew a fair bit about Joseph Carey Merrick, the Elephant man to most, and always felt bad about the way he was treated, I know what it has been typed about him and his care, but, as with everything in the world. I go with my inside, whether I really believe everything written/typed or said. Whilst initially I feel he was helped greatly, saved from a short life, I feel, that after it became apparent that (at the time) he was incurable. Now, quickly back to my photography, upon deciding that my exhibition was on Plastic Surgery / Biological Abnormalities, my mind flooded with ideas for everything, what I was going to use, how everything would look, costumes, tools. It was such an indescribable feeling. For photography, food ran through my mind, fleshy meaty mushy foods. BANANAS, mushed up mashed bananas, Mince, mince was perfect for deformed, pulsing skin. Peanut butter, chunky, lumpy peanut butter, and Chicken skins, all raw, and all feeling good. |
